Aaron David Ekroth was born on January 8, 1979, in Honolulu, to Lauren and Linda Kay Cornell Ekroth. The birth announcement ran in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser on January 19, listing the family’s address as 2123 Hunnewell Street. Three weeks later, on February 12, the Evening Telegram in Superior, Wisconsin — Loren’s hometown paper — carried the same news, continuing the family’s practice of sending announcements back to Superior. The same paper had run Loren’s own first-birthday photograph 43 years earlier.

The Star-Advertiser announcement names “Mrs. Elton Ekroth” as grandmother, confirming that Loren’s mother was still alive in 1979 — at least 22 years after Elton’s death in 1957. Her given name does not appear in either announcement.

A family photograph from Aaron’s baptism shows Loren, his mother Martha, and Linda holding baby Aaron in a white christening gown, in the East-West Center garden by the carp pond.

Aaron grew up in Honolulu. After his parents’ divorce in 1984, Loren maintained a co-parenting relationship with Linda, and by 2009 described himself as having become an “uncle” to Linda’s son by her second marriage. Aaron later partnered with Stacey Bearden; their son Anders — Loren’s grandson — would know him as “Farfar,” the Swedish word for paternal grandfather.
